Answer Engine Optimization
AEO is the service of restructuring your website content into the format that answer engines — ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity — can quote: direct-answer paragraphs, question-format headings, comparison tables, FAQ blocks and FAQPage schemas, applied page by page.
What does the transformation look like?
| Before (typical content) | After (AEO format) | |
|---|---|---|
| Opening | Warm-up paragraphs ("In today's fast-moving world…") | A 40-60 word direct answer under the H1, quotable on its own |
| Headings | Generic labels ("Our Services", "Why Us?") | Question format ("How much does an implant cost?") |
| Comparisons | Long flat paragraphs | Comparison tables LLMs extract easily |
| Processes | Steps buried in prose | Numbered lists + HowTo schema |
| Closing | Generic call to action | 4-6 question FAQ block + FAQPage schema |
Frequently asked questions
Is AEO the same as GEO?
Related but not identical. GEO is the umbrella: everything that makes a brand visible in AI answers (entity, schema, access, content). AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) is its content layer: restructuring pages into a format answer engines can quote.
Which pages get optimized?
Priority order: homepage, service/product pages, pages answering frequent customer questions, and top-traffic blog posts. A typical first scope is 8-12 pages.
Will my existing content be deleted?
No — it is restructured: a direct-answer paragraph is added, headings become questions, long paragraphs turn into tables and lists, and an FAQ block is appended. Your brand voice is preserved and every change requires your approval.
Does AEO hurt my SEO rankings?
No — it helps. Direct answers, question headings and FAQ blocks also perform well in Google featured snippets and People Also Ask. AEO format is aligned with modern SEO best practice.
